Concert III: Beethoven's Ninth

They are already known for their flash mobs in the pedestrian zone, but Beethoven's “Ninth” as a piece for a chamber ensemble is something new. "Symphony No. 9 Recomposed" is what Pedro Halffter calls his version of Beethoven's Ninth. The orchestra is a chamber ensemble made up of Villa Musica scholars. Together with the cellist Alexander Hülshoff they plunge into the dramatic first movements. For the famous finale with Schiller's "Ode to Joy", only a few young voices from "Barock Vokal" come onto the stage. It all begins with Halffter's “Homage to Salvador Dalí”, a sonorous bow to the great painter of Spanish Surrealism, who died 30 years ago.
