Ludwig van Beethoven is probably the most famous figure ever to have been born in Bonn. Many of the city’s institutions preserve his legacy for future generations. They deal with his life, his music and his impact down to the present day.

Beethovenfest Bonn

The Beethovenfest Bonn is the musical highlight of the year for the City of Bonn and its outlying region. Every year the festival presents from 50 to 60 concerts with distinguished, internationally renowned artists, ensembles and productions.

Beethoven-Haus Bonn

The Beethoven-Haus in Bonn will become a focus of international attention in the jubilee year of 2020. It is here that Beethoven was born in 1770. Today his life and works are studied and brought to life in performances, scholarship and archival work at the place of his birth.

Beethoven Orchester Bonn

The history of this orchestra dates back to 1907. Conductors of the stature of Richard Strauss, Max Reger, Volker Wangenheim, Dennis Russell Davies and Kurt Masur elevated it into the front rank of German orchestras. Since the 2017-18 season it has been headed by Bonn’s general music director, Dirk Kaftan.

Bürger für Beethoven

Bürger für Beethoven (Citizens for Beethoven) is Bonn’s largest cultural association, with 1,500 members. Its purpose is to promote Beethoven’s music and preserve his memory in the city of his birth.
